As an owner of a physical store, you will generate no or little revenue if there are no or only few visitors coming into your store regardless of how good is your store layout and how good your product or service is. In the world of Internet business, no matter how well-designed is your website and how attractive is your product or service, no traffic to your website means nothing to you.

So, how do we get traffic? We can use free or paid advertisements, write and submit articles, use email marketing with joint venture with others who have existing list of prospects, or draw traffic from various search engines.

Advertising is one way that you can direct traffic to your site. You can advertise to pals in some forums or newsgroups that you are actively contribute. But do take note that no all of these forums or newsgroups are allowing such activity. Or, you can choose to advertise on advertising sites that charge a one-off weekly or monthly fee, or on a pay-per-click basis.

One of the effective ways to draw visitors to your site is by writing and submitting articles to free article directories. This is fairly effective because each article you write and submit to an article directory creates a link to your website. The more links you have, the better is your ranking in a particular search engine ranking especially for Google search engine. However, it may take as long as 60 to 120 days to see the effect and it is not guaranteed.

If you know someone who already has a list of prospects that may be interested in your product, you may approach him or her with a joint-venture proposal. If your proposal is interested enough, the chance that you will succeed is pretty high.

Drawing traffic directly from search engine is not an easy task. However, as mentioned before, writing articles will help in this aspect. Another way is to get high page rank sites (page rank is used by Google as a way to rank the sites, the higher the page rank, the better you are in the aspect of ranking in the search engine) to link to you. This can improve your ranking in the search engine and hence help attract more traffic to your site. Some sites are prepared to offer such service with a monthly fee.
